When you receive a long SMS, it can be very troublesome to scroll through the SMS with the arrow keys as the text will scroll through line by line. By pressing the numbers 1 and 3 keys, you can get the text to scroll page by page instead of line by line and thus behaving like the PgUp and PgDn keys found on your PC.
